July’s Monthly Update

July 27, 2021

Dear TJO2 Supporters:

I’m starting this month’s report with another update on our home improvements.  Today the Solar people came out, at 5:30am, to work some more on the system they installed three weeks ago; which was a month after we agreed to have it installed.  After some more explanations of how our house is old, how long city and SRP (electric) inspections take and they need to add more parts, they now say it will be at least another month before our solar system actually starts working.  The house saga continues.

Now on to ministry news.  Thanks to TJO2 supporters, more families in Roatan received food and other necessities this past month.  Like many places in the world this month, Roatan received some serious rains.  Good for filling the cisterns but not so good for those dealing with mud and trying to make a living.

Currently we are evaluating, with the help of Maynor and German, who God is leading us to help in one of their churches that need physical help.  We should have a project lined up soon.

On that note, if anyone is planning to visit Roatan and would like to work on a project, let us know and we can facilitate the project for you.  If you like we can purchase materials for you in advance and have them on site prior to your arrival.  Besides, Maynor and German, who our main contacts, with have several others available.

As many of you know, Jamie and I have other missionary friends living on the island.  Some of which we worked with on various projects.  One family that helped at Casa de Luz several times is experiencing some heavy trials right now.

The Trawicks serve in Sandy Bay and live just outside the Colonia where Jamie and I served.  David and LaDonna have two daughters.  Both daughters got married since we left the island.  One moved to Alabama to serve along side her husband there and the other stayed in Roatan where her husband joined the Trawicks in their ministry.

David and LaDonna recently traveled to the States for two reasons.  One, to be present for the birth of their daughter’s baby and two, to do their annual fundraising for their work in Roatan.

Their other daughter and son-in-law remain in Roatan to run the ministry until their return.

Shortly after arriving in the States, both David and LaDonna contracted Covid and have been quarantined in two different states since he was preaching and fundraising in another state when they got Covid…  David is recovering but LaDonna had to be put in the hospital.

Lydia, the daughter in Alabama, who was 32 weeks pregnant, also contracted covid and it resulted in an emergency C-section due to the baby’s heart stopping twice.  The baby girl also has covid but, after a couple of days, was allowed to go home with the father.  The daughter, Lydia, has gotten worse and is on the fullest amount of oxygen that they can give her.

Jamie and I are asking our supporters to add this family to your prayer list.

I’m sure, like me, many of you ask God, why things like this happen.  Why do such good people, who are serving God so faithfully, go through such trials?  It just doesn’t seem right.

This is when we cling to God’s Word even more.  We know He is in control.  We know that all things work together for good for those who love God.  Just because we don’t understand now, we still trust and praise God for the good that will come from this trial.

Right now, we are seriously concerned for this wonderful family and we are literally crying out to God for their deliverance.  Again, please join us in praying for the Trawicks, their daughters, sons-in-law and new granddaughter.

Jamie and I are still searching for a church to attend regularly.  We narrowed it down to two.  We are praying for discernment as to which one He wants us at.

Morning Scripture: When I consider your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you have set in place, what is mankind that you are mindful of them, human beings that you care for them?[c] You have made them[d] a little lower than the angels[e] and crowned them[f] with glory and honor. You made them rulers over the works of your hands; you put everything under their[g] feet: all flocks and herds, and the animals of the wild, the birds in the sky, and the fish in the sea, all that swim the paths of the seas. Lord, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth! – Psalm 8:3-9

JUNE update newsletter

Dear TJO2 Supporters:

Last month we were praising God that our electrical issues at our home were finally completely repaired.  This month we are praising God that our septic repair issue has finally been completed.  Little by little our home is becoming our home and not just the house we bought to live in.

I guess that it’s pretty much the same way the Holy Spirit works in us after we accept Christ as our Savior.  The Holy Spirit comes to live in us and, little by little, He repairs the damage of the world in us and turns us into Christ-like homes.

One of the things I really enjoy about the Holy Spirit living in us is the blessing we have by being able to help others in need.  Whether it be by providing food, water, physical or spiritual help; it’s a blessing to be used by God to bless others.

Last month we shared how Maynor has chosen an elderly widow as the recipient of TJO2’s next project.  Jamie posted some pictures on our Facebook and of the lady and the work that was done to repair her home.  It brings joy to our hearts that so many of you continue to support TJO2 so that we can continue to help others that God leads us to.

Twice a month we send funds to Maynor and German.  They use the funds to buy food, and other necessities, and deliver it to people in need in their community.

A few people have requested more information about the people we choose to help.  We certainly welcome questions.  It is vital that we be held accountable for how we us the resources God provides us through our supports.

Here’s a short list of how we choose:  First, we look within the Body of Believers.  Second, we look for those with no other means of help.  However, first and foremost we follow the lead of the Holy Spirit.

We must not forget that showing the love of Christ is very often what brings people to the knowledge of Christ.  Jesus went first to the house of Israel and He took care of His disciples.  But then He also used His resources to show the road to salvation to the lost.

Jamie has spent this last week volunteering as a leader in a VBS at a church near our son’s house.  She did this in order to be able to take our grandson.

We are still searching for a church to attend regularly.  We have visited several churches.  Some close to home and some a little further.  We would prefer to stay close to home so that we can possibly build some relationships.  I also work every Sunday afternoon, so close to home would help.  Please pray that we can discern which one the Holy Spirit is leading us to.

If anyone plans to visit Roatan this year, please let us know.  We have collected various reading glasses to give out to those who need them.  We could mail them to you and we have a contact for you to give them to who would see that they get to those who truly need them.
