Dear TJO2 Supporters,
This past month has been full of learning new things and a steady progression of moving towards and preparing for the work God sent us here to do.
This month Jamie signed up and started an on-line college course to earn her certificate in Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL). It is a 120-hour course that she must complete by September 15th. It’s been several years since Jamie was in college, so this course is proving to be a real challenge for her. She is holding herself to the same standard that she holds the students that we sponsor in school, which is to maintain an 85% grade. Thus far she is at 95%.
While Jamie is studying, learning and taking tests, we are also working at turning the office in our apartment into Jamie’s classroom. God has given us clear discernment that Jamie is to continue sharing Christ by teaching English.
Currently, our plan it to open the new school in about a month. We plan to start small with two to four students.
Praise God, for he has put it on some of your hearts to donate towards the supplies we need for the school. Items such as a dry erase board, a printer and teaching manuals. We are still working on some shelving we need.
We are asking for your prayers in the matter of the school. Specifically, that we only obtain what is really needed for Jamie to teach effectively. Also, that when it comes time to go through the student applications to the school, that we chose according to God’s will.
Jamie and I have also come to a clear discernment that my main role here in Costa Rica will be to support Jamie. We believe God wants us to work together as a team. While I do not expect to teach, (God has revealed that it is not my gift) I do have the gifts of serving and helping.
As part of the serving and helping, I will still facilitate teams that come to serve here in San Isidro. Jamie and I have visited a couple of mission housing locations and believe there is at least one really good location not far from our apartment.
I have met with the managers of the property and have reviewed the accommodations. The cost is well within what teams budgeted for Roatan. The cost of flying to Costa Rica is less than it was to Roatan; and, it is much cooler here with the average temperature in the 70’s.
I have identified several projects, literally on the mission housing grounds that teams visiting here could start with.
The mission housing facilities can also be used for a base of operations for groups want to do other things to serve the Lord here in Costa Rica.
As far as weather, public school schedules, holidays and such, it rains here; a lot. The summer/dry months of the year are December, January and February. During March thru April there may be some rain.
We have not been through the ‘official’ rainy season yet, so we can’t tell you much about that season, but we are told it is from May until December.
While December thru February are considered ‘dry’ months, it is also considered the tourist season, so flights here will most likely be a higher cost during these months, but still less that Roatan.
As we encouraged people in the past, if you are not sure about what you and a mission team could do here to serve God, send a reconnaissance team of two to four people to check us out.
For all of you who continue to follow The Journey of 2 our pray for you is “The Lord bless you and keep you, the Lord make His face shine upon you, and be gracious to you; the Lord lift up His countenance upon you, and give you peace” Numbers 6:24 (NKJV).
