I often struggle with seeking approval from people and wanting everyone to like me. This is pride and a desire of my flesh; the opposite of the Holy Spirit. I was reminded of this today, and wanted to share a few verses that I cling to in these battles with such selfishness:

“For am I now seeking the approval of man, or of God? Or am I trying to please man? If I were still trying to please man, I would not be a servant of Christ.” (Galatians 1:10)

“As the Scriptures say, “If you want to boast, boast only about the LORD.”

When people commend themselves, it doesn’t count for much. The important thing is for the Lord to commend them.”

(2 Corinthians 10:17-18)

“Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves.” (Philippians 2:3)

Lord, please help me not to seek to gain praise or approval from man, but to be obedient to Your will. Please help me trust in Jesus, the name above all names, consistently and with a joyful heart. Please help me tell others about You and Your Good News. May YOU receive all the praise and glory! Amen.

“You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. No one lights a lamp and then puts it under a basket. Instead, a lamp is placed on a stand, where it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father.” (Matthew 5:14-16)

We, and many other missionaries in Honduras are asking that everyone we know please pray for Honduras from now through this Thursday. We are in a delicate political situation since the election two days ago. Supposedly a new President will be named by this Thursday. Please pray for peace, and that God’s will prevails. Thank you all.

Evening Scripture: Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us. Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before Him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. – Hebrews 12:1-2

Morning Scripture: Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God. Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love. – 1 John 4:7-8
